چکیده

This paper analyzes the consequences of the microstructural changes in a quenchable steel component subjected to grinding. The model takes into account the coupling of the temperature history and stress field in the grinding, where the temperature field is assessed by Jager’s model and the stress field is analyzed by means of an embossed grid method. The effects of the dislocation density and grain size distribution are also examined. The transformation kinetics of martensite, bainite and ferrite is then discussed based on the Cahn’s law. It was found that that the temperature-stress field varies significantly in different subsurface parts of the component and thus creates a variable structure across its depth. The theoretical results are in good agreement with experimental data. C © 2002 Kluwer Academic Publishers

Mechanical property improvement of quenchable steel by grinding

This paper studies a method of surface heat treatment by making use of grinding heat and stress to create favorable microstructures and promote high wear and fatigue resistance. It was found that the thickness of the treated surface layer could be up to 600 μm. The beneficial microstructure of the layer was created by an enhanced martensite transformation, intensive dislocations and a more desi...

Realisation of grinding-hardening in workpieces of curved surfaces—Part 1 Plunge cylindrical grinding

This paper investigates the feasibility to achieve grinding-hardening in a plunge cylindrical grinding process. To understand the mechanisms, a temperature-dependent finite element heat transfer model incorporating a triangular moving heat source was developed to describe the temperature field, thus to predict the thickness of the grinding-hardened layer. The analysis carried out included the v...

EVALUATION OF WEAR AND IMPACT PROPERTIES OF GRINDING BALLS USED IN SARCHESHMEH COPPER PLANT

Abstract: Ball mills are used in the last stage of ore processing for grinding raw materials. Forged 70Cr2 alloy steel and Austempered Ductile Iron (ADI) balls are materials from which grinding balls are made for Sarcheshmeh Copper Plant (SCP) ball mills. In the present study wear and impact properties of these two kinds of balls have been investigated. Some balls randomly were selected as ...

Testing and numerical modelling of Steel-Concrete-Steel with stud bolts connectors subject to push-out loading

Steel-concrete-steel (SCS) sandwich panels are composed of two steel plates with low thicknesses and high densities and strengths and one thick layer between both plates with low strength and density known as core that is composed of concrete. Cohesive material-epoxy resin or shear connectors are usually used to connect the plates to the concrete core. SCS sandwich composites are being develope...

An investigation of the corrosive wear of steel balls in grinding of sulphide ores

Ball mills are common grinding equipment in mineral processing industries. Ball wear results from three mechanisms namely impact, abrasion and corrosion. Of these, the corrosion mechanism is the least investigated, due to its chemical-electrochemical nature. Therefore, the aims of this research were to investigate the grinding chemistry influence (slurry pH, solid percentage, water chemistry an...
